BRENHAM HERITAGE MUSEUM UNVEILS ‘HERITAGE AND HOPE’ JUNETEENTH EXHIBIT
The Brenham Heritage Museum’s new summer rotating exhibit invites visitors to reflect on the cultural significance of Juneteenth in the local community.
“Heritage and Hope: 160 years of Celebrating Juneteenth in Washington County” is now open to the public through the summer season in the Blue Bell Gallery.
Through rare photographs, documents, textiles and artifacts, the exhibit traces the evolution of Juneteenth celebrations in Washington County over the past 160 years. It also spotlights the efforts of local families, community leaders and organizers who have kept the spirit of Juneteenth alive across generations.
Brenham Heritage Museum Interim Executive Director Ciera Harris thanked the museum’s African American Content Committee for its partnership and work to “bring this important history to life.” She said, “Their leadership played a crucial role in shaping this narrative so that it reflects the real experiences and traditions of local families.”
The museum says “Heritage and Hope” is part of its broader initiative to ensure that Black voices, experiences and contributions are preserved and celebrated year-round.
The Brenham Heritage Museum is located at 105 South Market Street and is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.
