FATAL HEAD-ON COLLISION IN BELLVILLE UNDER INVESTIGATION
Bellville police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred Tuesday along Highway 36 on the south side of Bellville.
Bellville Police Chief Jason Smalley reported that around noon on Tuesday, a red Mazda CX-30 was traveling in the northbound lanes of Highway 36 near Indian Oaks Drive when, for an unknown reason, it veered off the path, crossed the center turn lane and collided head-on with a southbound white Nissan Armada.
The driver and lone occupant of the Mazda, identified by police as 25-year-old Detric Phillips, was taken to MidCoast Medical Center in Bellville, where he was pronounced dead.
Two people in the Nissan were transported to Memorial Hermann in Katy for treatment of serious injuries.
Traffic was diverted for around an hour while authorities worked the scene of the crash, which remains under investigation.
