The opening of the accounts was announced during a press conference this (Friday) morning at the Cannery Kitchen. Faith Mission CEO J.D. Young said it is an honor to be able to support Central Texas’ recovery efforts however possible to help those who have been impacted come back from enormous loss.
Faith Mission Executive Director Reverend Randy Wells said donations will be accepted over a 30-day period, after which Faith Mission will assess what has been donated and take that relief to the victims. The campaign will continue until there is no longer a need for assistance.
Rev. Wells said every donation, no matter the size, will make a difference in helping families and communities rebuild.
The conference included comments from Washington County Judge John Durrenberger, Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura and Washington County Chamber of Commerce President Jamie Rankin, along with a letter on behalf of State Senator Lois Kolkhorst.
Durrenberger thanked Faith Mission for “always being there at a time of tragedy” and gave an update on Washington County’s swiftwater rescue team, which has been redeployed after several days in Kerr County to prepare for severe weather expected this weekend in North and West Texas.
Kenjura said the Brenham community’s hearts are with all those experiencing this disaster and that this is “Texas helping Texans.”
Rankin encouraged the public to support Faith Mission in this initiative, saying to the organization, “We believe in your mission.”
Kolkhorst wrote in her letter that she is proud of the local efforts to help those who have suffered loss in this tragedy and that she is “fully committed” to supporting the recovery ahead.
