BURTON CITY COUNCIL AUTHORS LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR FRIENDS & NEIGHBORS’ LCRA GRANT APPLICATION

The Burton City Council signed a letter on Tuesday in support of Burton Friends and Neighbors and the group’s efforts to obtain grant funding to make upgrades to the local ballpark.

The organization is applying for a grant through the Lower Colorado River Authority to add LED lighting at the ballpark and add covering to seating areas.

In the letter, the council says the two projects “will enhance the fields for athletes and families alike” and that this grant would be “well-invested in a space that is welcoming for families to gather and connect”.

The council also writes that it is “excited for Friends and Neighbors and for their vision forward for the ballfields.”  It adds, “We are honored to be a part of all that they do here in our community.”

The LCRA accepts grant applications for community projects twice a year, in January and July.  Most grants are for $25,000 or less, but several grants of up to $50,000 are awarded every grant cycle, and this year, to commemorate the grant program’s 30th anniversary, one grant of up to $100,000 will be awarded.

The current application period ends on July 31st.
