BRENHAM HERITAGE MUSEUM SPEAKER SERIES PROGRAM TO DISCUSS ‘VOICES OF CAMPTOWN’
The Brenham Heritage Museum’s next Speaker Series program will host the authors of a new book that tells the stories of historic figures from the Camptown community.
Charles Swenson, Dr. Tina Henderson and Dr. Robert Bubb will discuss their work on “Voices of Camptown: Untold Stories from a Freedom Colony Cemetery”. The program will be held on Tuesday, July 29th from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Julie & Larry Tegeler Bus Depot Gallery.
Through archival work, oral histories and community collaboration, the book uncovers the lives of those who transformed adversity into opportunity, building churches, schools, businesses and a vibrant civic life in the shadow of Reconstruction and the Jim Crow Era.
Admission is free for museum members and $5 for non-members. Copies of the book will be available for sale at the event.
