TEXAS SALES TAX HOLIDAY SCHEDULED FOR AUG. 8-10
Texas’ annual sales tax holiday is coming up in the second weekend of August.
Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock says Texas families are expected to save an estimated $133.2 million in state and local sales taxes during this year’s holiday, which will run Friday, August 8th through midnight on Sunday, August 10th.
The tax-free weekend applies to items like clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks that are priced below $100, saving about $8 for every $100 spent. The exemption applies for products purchased in stores, online, by phone or by mail.
Purchases made using layaway can also benefit from the tax-free weekend. Items placed on layaway or final payments made on existing layaway purchases during the holiday are tax-free, as long as the individual item price is below $100.
Each year, the Texas Legislature sets the dates for the sales tax holiday and the list of qualifying items. To see the full list of items that can be bought tax-free during the holiday, go to www.texastaxholiday.org.
