GRASS FIRE, VEHICLE FIRE AMONG SIX CALLS THURSDAY FOR BRENHAM FD
The Brenham Fire Department responded to six calls on Thursday.
Shortly after 8 a.m., firefighters were called out to a home in the 400 block of Scattered Oaks Circle for a gas odor. They stood by until the City of Brenham Gas Department made location before returning to service.
At 10:30 a.m., units went out to a crash at Highway 290 West and South Berlin Road. The Brenham Fire Department and Berlin Volunteer Fire Department provided traffic control and removed debris from the roadway. Once the vehicles were removed, all units cleared the call.
Close to noon, BFD personnel were dispatched to The Home Depot, 2801 Wood Ridge Boulevard, for a smoke investigation. However, they were unable to locate anything, so they returned to the station.
At 1:15 p.m., the department responded to a vehicle fire in the 2100 block of Highway 290 West. The vehicle owner had already used an extinguisher to put the fire out prior to the department’s arrival, but firefighters stayed to take care of any hotspots and apply water to cool the area that was burning.
A few minutes after 5:15 p.m., a fire alarm was reported in the 900 block of West Third Street on the Blinn College campus. The alarm was determined to be malfunctioning, and firefighters advised personnel at the scene to contact their alarm company.
Around 6:15 p.m., the Brenham Fire Department and Chappell Hill Volunteer Fire Department were called out to a grass fire in the 6200 block of Old Chappell Hill Road. Units found a slow-moving fire with three round bales on fire. The Salem Volunteer Fire Department was called for additional water. Firefighters extinguished the bales and the grass fire, returning to service once the fire was out.
