MULTIPLE WEEKEND ALARMS, GAS CALLS FOR BRENHAM FD
The Brenham Fire Department responded to seven calls between Saturday and early this (Monday) morning.
Close to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, units were called out for a fire alarm at Brenham Junior High School, 1200 Carlee Drive. Nothing was showing from the exterior of the school, and they found a faulty smoke detector in the kitchen area. There were no signs of smoke or fire after a walkthrough of the building.
A few minutes shy of 3 p.m., firefighters went out to a home in the 400 block of College Avenue for a gas leak. They found a fence building company on location that had hit a gas line, and they stood by until the City of Brenham Gas Department turned the gas off.
Approaching 11:15 a.m. Sunday, BFD members were dispatched to a home in the 700 block of East Tom Green Street for a report of a gas smell inside. Nothing was showing from the outside of the home. The homeowner advised firefighters and the gas department that one of the stove knobs was accidentally turned, causing the gas smell. The fire department ventilated the home before returning to service.
Just past 11:15 a.m., a gas smell was reported outside a home in the 700 block of Hillside Drive. Firefighters and the gas department made location, but they found no reading on their gas detectors. Gas crews remained at the scene, while the fire department cleared the call.
Around 3:45 p.m., firefighters responded to an alarm at Brenham Junior High School. There was nothing showing from the exterior of the building, and the kitchen-area smoke detector was having issues again. No signs of smoke or fire were found after walking through the building.
At 10 p.m., units went out to a home in the 500 block of Peabody Street for a report of a smoke smell. Nothing was detected from the outside of the home, but the homeowner said he was smelling it around the refrigerator area. After pulling the fridge away from the wall, they discovered an electric cord was causing the smell, so they unplugged the wire and advised the homeowner what was found.
Shortly after 1 a.m. today, BFD personnel were called out to a home in the 1800 block of South Day Street for an alarm sounding. They found that a smoke detector had water inside, causing it to go off, and they also found a small water leak above the detector. Units returned to service after visiting with the homeowner, who said it would be repaired.
