AUGUST SALES TAX REBATES UP FOR WASHINGTON CO. & BRENHAM, DOWN FOR BURTON

  

Sales and tax distributions for the month of August were up for Washington County and the City of Brenham, but down for the City of Burton.

Washington County’s rebate this month came in at $400,631, up 5.87 percent from what it received in August 2024 at $378,390.  So far in 2025, the county has collected $3,262,746, an increase of 5.86 percent from the sum of $3,082,029 through this time a year ago.

The City of Brenham tallied a rebate of $873,157 in August, up 5.43 percent from the $828,115 reported for last August.  To this point, the city has taken in $7,004,194, which is up 4.86 percent when compared to the $6,679,215 received through August of last year.

Burton’s rebate was down 33.15 percent, reporting at $9,995 this month and $14,953 in August 2024.  The city’s receipts to date are still up 2.46 percent for the year at $116,696, with the cumulative total being $113,889 at this point in 2024. 

Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced $1.3 billion in local sales tax allocations in August, up 5.2 percent from August of last year and up 4.7 percent for the year so far. 

Allocations in August are based on sales made in June by businesses that report tax monthly and on sales made in April, May and June by quarterly filers.
