STRANDED BOATERS, OVERTURNED 18-WHEELER AMONG SIX WEEKEND RESPONSES FOR BRENHAM FD
The Brenham Fire Department responded to four calls on Saturday and two early Sunday morning.
Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Saturday, firefighters were dispatched to the 500 block of Marina Road for a report of a water rescue. They arrived to find no one in the water, but there were stranded boaters on a disabled boat. The boat was pulled into the marina, and all units cleared the call.
Approaching 8:30 p.m., the department went out to a home in the 2500 block of Oakwood Drive for a smoke detector sounding. Nothing was showing from the exterior of the building, and units found that the detector had activated because of a low battery, so they replaced all batteries before returning to the station.
At 8:45 p.m., a report of hazmat was called in from the 1400 block of FM 1155 North. The Brenham Fire Department and Meyersville Volunteer Fire Department found a black box in the front yard, but no hazard was found in the box.
Around 10 p.m., BFD members responded to the 9000 block of Highway 290 East for a report of a transportation incident. However, the patient was able to exit the vehicle through the sunroof, so the department returned to service.
Close to 1:15 a.m. Sunday, Brenham firefighters and members of the Burton Volunteer Fire Department were called out to the 11800 block of Sandtown Road for a report of a transportation incident with entrapment. They found a tractor trailer on its side, but the driver was walking around and was not injured. Harris County Hazmat was called to offload 7,400 gallons of fuel into another trailer so that the wreckers could turn the truck and trailer back onto its wheels.
At 5:45 a.m., units were dispatched to a home in the 1300 block of Loesch Street for an alarm sounding. Nothing was showing from the outside of the home. They ultimately found a bad detector, which they advised the homeowner to get replaced.
