BRENHAM FIRE DEPT. RESPONDS THURSDAY TO FLUID SPILL, TWO ALARMS
The Brenham Fire Department was called out three times on Thursday.
A few minutes after 10:45 a.m., units were sent out to a fire alarm at Comfort Suites, 2350 South Day Street. Nothing was showing from the exterior of the hotel, but they found a construction crew on the third floor creating dust, which set the alarm off.
Around 2:15 p.m., another alarm was called in from the Brenham State Supported Living Center, 4001 Highway 36 South. Nothing was observed from the outside of the building. Upon entering, BFD members found a bad detector, so they advised maintenance of the issue before returning to service.
Shortly past 5 p.m., firefighters received a report of a hazmat incident at FM 109 and Highway 36 South. They found a five-gallon bucket of ag hydraulic fluid had spilled on the roadway. The department used dry absorbent to prevent the runoff from running down the hill any further. TxDOT was called to clean the spill.
