BRENHAM BANNER PRESS SOLD TO SOUTH TEXAS NEWS INC.
The Brenham Banner Press has new owners.
It was announced in today’s (Tuesday’s) edition of the Banner Press that the local newspaper, which has been run by a partnership led by Fred Hartman, will now be a part of South Texas News Inc.
South Texas News is a Texas based media company headquartered in Beeville, Texas, and is owned by Albert Reynolds.
After 20 years of working at the Beeville Bee-Picayune, Reynolds purchased that paper along with other titles in 2023.
South Texas News currently has a portfolio that includes ten Texas community newspapers.
The Brenham Banner Press was founded in 1866 as the Southern Banner by John Gilbert Rankin. It later became the Brenham Banner Press in 1926.
The local newspaper made history in 1917 as the first daily newspaper in Texas to hire a female editor.
Hartman said that it was important to leave the Banner in good hands. He added that Reynolds and his company are committed to quality journalism and being good stewards of the newspapers that they publish.
Reynolds stated that they plan to not only uphold the Banner’s tradition of excellence, but to also to continue growing and adapting to serve the evolving needs of their readers.
