ASSAULT, VARIOUS POSSESSION OFFENSES AMONG CHARGES FOR SIX ARRESTED BY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office made six arrests between Thursday and Sunday.
Approaching 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Corporal Rosa Salinas conducted a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Highway 290 East for no front license plate. Upon approaching the vehicle, the sheriff’s office detected an odor of marijuana and reported finding various contraband after a vehicle search. The driver, 19-year-old Asher Nadeem Hutchinson of Rosharon, was taken into custody and transported to the Washington County Jail for Possession of Marijuana Under 2oz., Possession of Tobacco by a Minor and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Around 12:30 a.m. Friday, Corporal Adam Zavala conducted a traffic stop in the 2600 block of Highway 290 West for no front license plate light. The driver had a suspended license and was taken into custody. 22-year-old John David Beau Branham of Willis was taken to the Washington County Jail for Driving While License Invalid Enhanced.
Nearing 1:15 a.m., Deputy Matthew Presswood conducted a traffic stop at Fritz Road and Old Masonic Road for speeding. The passenger, 37-year-old John Anthony Orozco of Brenham, was found to have an active warrant out of Austin County. Orozco was transported to the Washington County Jail and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1/1B, Less Than a Gram.
Close to 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Corporal Zavala conducted a traffic stop near Highway 36 North and Oak Hill Drive for failure to drive in a single lane. Upon making contact, the sheriff’s office reported that the driver displayed signs of intoxication. 19-year-old Colten Lance Wensel of Brenham was taken into custody and booked at the Washington County Jail for Driving While Intoxicated.
A few minutes after noon, deputies responded to an assault call in the 21000 block of Evans Lane. Upon arrival, the sheriff’s office stated that the victim was bleeding due to a laceration in his arm. According to the sheriff’s office, the victim told deputies he had been assaulted by his wife. After further investigation, 37-year-old Delfina Tapia Navarro of Washington was arrested and charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury to a Family Member. She was taken to the Washington County Jail.
On Sunday, around 10:45 p.m., Deputy Jacob Faske conducted a traffic stop in the 11700 block of Highway 290 West for no tail lamps. The driver was found to have an active warrant in Dallas County and was taken into custody. 30-year-old Tyrone Edward Byrd of Houston was transported to the Washington County Jail on charges of No Driver’s License and Criminal Mischief $2,500 - $30,000.
