GRIMES COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO MEET WEDNESDAY MORNING

Grimes County Courthouse

The Grimes County Commissioners Court has several items on the agenda for their next meeting.

Among the agenda items is the adoption of the budget and tax rate for the upcoming year. The County’s proposed tax rate is 42.3077 cents per $100 valuation. The rate will go completely to maintenance and operations, because currently there is no debt service.

Also at the meeting, the Grimes County Historical Commission will be presenting a request to erect a Texas Historical Commission marker in honor of African-American Texas Legislator James H. Washington on the grounds of the Grimes County Courthouse in Anderson.

Washington, who was a Republican, overcame a contested election to go on to represent the County in the Texas House during the 13th Legislative Session from 1873-1874. He also served as Vice President of the State Convention in 1876, and served on the executive committee at multiple state conventions.

In addition to that, the Commissioners will be discussing the possibility of a Burn Ban in Grimes County, hear recommendations from fire chiefs for a volunteer fire department contract, and a resolution to declare Tuesday, September 16, as National Voter Registration Day in Grimes County.

The Grimes County Commissioners Court meets tomorrow at 9am at the Courthouse.
