BLINN BOARD TO RECEIVE FALL ENROLLMENT & HOUSING REPORTS, VOTE ON FACULTY SENATE

The Blinn Board of Trustees will meet Tuesday to hear a slate of reports and take up an item for the establishment of a faculty senate under new state law.

The board will receive administrative and financial reports, as well as a preliminary enrollment report and a Brenham Campus housing report for the Fall 2025 semester.

The lone action item on the agenda pertains to the creation of a Blinn College District faculty senate, under the guidelines set in place by Senate Bill 37 from the 89th Legislature.

The law, which went into effect on September 1st, states that only the governing board of an institution of higher learning may establish a faculty council or senate, which advises college administrators on matters regarding the general welfare of the institution.  The board must adopt a policy overseeing the selection of the council or senate members, and the president or chief executive officer of the university or college will be responsible for appointing a presiding officer, associate presiding officer and secretary from the members of the council or senate.

The board will meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the third-floor board room of the Brenham Campus Administration Building.  The meeting will be livestreamed on Blinn College’s YouTube channel.
