The Blinn College men’s golf team placed seventh at the Waco River Classic on Tuesday at the Bear Ridge Golf Course in Waco, Texas.

The Buccaneers shot 43-over par across three rounds of play.

McClennan Community College outlasted 12 other teams to win the team title at 6-over.

Sophomore Jaxson Daniele finished in 43rd place individually and shot 12-over to lead the Bucs. Freshman Brody Horsak was 13-over for 45th place; sophomore Ben Potter was 14-over for 51st; and sophomore Cody Peters and freshman Broc Talamantez each carded a 17-over for a 62nd-place tie.

“We talk all of the time about being consistent in our scoring, but we played up and down during our three rounds,” Blinn head coach David Johnson said. “We’re always aiming to eliminate high numbers, but we struggled a little with that this time around.”

Along with McLennan, Blinn competed among some of the top teams in NJCAA Division I men’s golf, including Midland College, Weatherford College, Hutchinson Community College, and Tyler Junior College.

“This tournament gave us an idea of where we are right now and how much we need to improve,” Johnson said. “We learned some good things about ourselves and we’ll be ready to go in Jacksonville.”

Blinn’s season continues at the two-day Jacksonville College Invitational beginning Monday, Sept. 29, at Cherokee Ranch Golf Club in Jacksonville, Texas.
