Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
The Blinn College women's golf team continued its strong fall campaign with a dominant effort at the Jacksonville College Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Cherokee Ranch Golf Club in Jacksonville, Texas.
The Buccaneers' Blue team earned its second team victory of the season, while Blinn's White team came in second in the six-team tournament.
The Bucs' Blue squad was a combined 27-over par, while the White team finished 85-over. The first-and-second team finishes are a first for Blinn women's golf.
"Very, very proud of what both of our teams accomplished this week," said Bucs assistant coach Gary Belt, who manages Blinn's women's teams during tournaments. "I was pleased with how both teams finished both rounds; these were hard-earned placements for both groups and give us a lot to build on as we head to the final stretch of the fall."
Bucs sophomore Daniah Syed claimed the individual title with a 2-over-par outing. Her sister, sophomore Abiha Syed, as well as freshman Ava Murcer tied for second at 4-over. Freshman Jacqueline Lawrence rounded out the Bucs' strong performances by placing eighth at 17-over.
Sophomore Lillie Webster paced the White team at 16-over for seventh place, and sophomore Alison Madeley cracked the top 10 with an 18-over showing for ninth.
Daniah and Abiha Syed, Murcer, and Webster were named to the all-tournament team.
A total of 36 golfers played in the competition.
Blinn returns to the links when it plays in the Battle at Winter Creek hosted by the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma beginning Monday, Oct. 13, at Winter Creek Golf & Social Club in Blanchard, Okla.
