The Sealy Police Department has promoted one of their own to be the new man in charge.

Russell Grimes was sworn in on Wednesday to be the new Sealy Chief of Police.

Grimes brings over 31 years of experience to the position, the last seven of which have been with the Sealy PD.

He got his Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and Law Enforcement Administration from Columbia Southern University.

Grimes started his career with the Angleton Police Department in 1993. He joined the Sealy Police Department in 2018, where he has been a detective, detective sergeant, administrative sergeant, and Assistant Chief of Police.

Grimes said that he plans to build on the department’s strengths in community policing, with a focus on outreach, recruitment, and officer retention.

He takes over the position formerly held by Jay Reeves, who officially retired on Tuesday.

Reeves had been in law enforcement for 34 years, which include 32 years with the city of Sealy. He had been the Chief of Police for the last eight years.

Reeves made a farewell post on the Sealy PD’s Facebook Page saying that it has been an honor to serve the citizens of Sealy, and thanking everyone for their friendship over the years.

He also said that he looks forward to spending more time with his wife, children, and granddaughter.
