BRENHAM FD RESPONDS TUESDAY TO SMOKING BRAKES, GAS LEAK

The Brenham Fire Department responded to two calls on Tuesday.

Just past 1 p.m., units were dispatched to the 2100 block of Highway 290 West for a report of a vehicle fire.  They made location to find light smoke coming from the brakes of an 18-wheeler trailer, but they did not find any fire.  The department allowed the brakes to cool before returning to service.

At 3 p.m., BFD members were called out to the 200 block of West Alamo Street for a gas leak.  Upon arrival, they found that someone had broken the gas meter at the ground, and they stood by until the City of Brenham Gas Department was able to plug the gas line.  Firefighters checked the buildings around the area with a gas detector, but no reading was found, so they cleared the call after the line was plugged.
