BUCCANEER WOMEN’S GOLF WINS BLINN FALL CLASSIC

The Blinn College women’s golf team put the finishing touches on a near-perfect fall Tuesday at the Blinn Fall Invitational at the Brenham Country Club in Brenham.

The Buccaneers won their fourth team title of the fall season with a 47-over par performance at the two-day, eight-team Invitational.

Blinn’s White team tied for third place.

The Buccaneers won four of the five tournaments it competed in this fall. They finished third at the Waco River Classic in September.

On Monday and Tuesday, sophomore Daniah Syed led the Bucs to victory with a 7-over, first-place showing.

“I’m really happy with what we accomplished, and I thought we could have done even better,” Syed said, “but that’s sort of always the case with golf. You might miss a few shots and have some strokes you wish you could have back. That just means there’s more room for us to grow and that gives us a goal for the spring.”

Four Bucs cracked the top five spots, including freshman Ava Murcer (second place at 12-over); freshman Jacqueline Lawrence (third at 13-over); and sophomore Abiha Syed (fifth at 15-over).

Freshman Zoe Nobile, who competed for Blinn’s White team, took sixth at 16-over.

A total of 42 golfers made up the field.

“The win is nice, and I give all credit to all 10 of our players,” Bucs assistant coach Gary Belt said. “I thought they gave great effort during the tournament. I don’t know if I ever could have dreamed of winning four out of five tournaments this fall, so believe me when I say I am extremely proud of our players.”

Belt said the strong fall performance has him excited for what’s in store for the Bucs in the spring, when they’ll vie for a berth in the NJCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championship tournament.

“You want to see progress from all of your players; not every player is skilled the same way, so you take them where they are, build them up, and hope they progress,” Belt said. “I saw growth from all 10 of them this fall, and I think come springtime, more of them will be playing at a higher level than they were when they got here in August.”

Blinn’s season will resume in 2026. A spring schedule has yet to be announced.
