OCTOBER SALES TAX REBATES UP FOR WASHINGTON CO. & BRENHAM, DOWN SLIGHTLY FOR BURTON
Most of Washington County reported a strong month of sales and tax distributions.
The county’s rebate in October was $414,862, up 16.61 percent from last October, when it received $355,751. So far this year, the county has collected $4,083,831, an increase of 6.32 percent from the payments of $3,841,049 recorded through October 2024.
The City of Brenham took in $924,488 this month, which is 24.2 percent more than last October’s rebate of $744,341. Through 2025, the city’s receipts of $8,787,350 are up 5.42 percent from the $8,334,993 received through this time a year ago.
The City of Burton saw a reduction of 1.48 percent in its rebate, coming in at $8,757 this October compared to $8,889 last October. The city is still positive for rebates on the year by 1.6 percent, collecting $134,421 so far this year after bringing in $132,297 through the same timeframe in 2024.
Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock reported $1.1 billion in local sales tax allocations in October, up 3.9 percent from last October and up 4.7 percent for the year to date.
October’s allocations are based on sales made in August by businesses that report tax monthly.
