FOOTBALL PREVIEW: BURTON AT IOLA
The Burton Panther Football Team will be looking to maintain their top spot in District 13-2A Division II when they go on the road tonight (Friday) to face the Iola Bulldogs.
Burton is currently tied with Granger for first place in the district standings. Both teams are 8-0 overall and 5-0 in district. Iola is in third place, but is only one game behind them. The Bulldogs are 5-3 overall, but they are 4-1 in district play.
Granger is hosting Somerville this week. Somerville is currently in the fourth spot with a 5-3 overall record and a 3-2 district record.
The Panthers are coming off of last week's 47-14 win over Milano.
Leading the way for Burton is QB Kayden Patterson (Jr.), who is 36 out of 63 passing for 611 yards and eight touchdowns. He has also carried the ball 96 times for 793 yards and 17 touchdowns.
RB Maleek Bibby (Jr.) is second on the team in rushing with 59 carries for 384 yards and five touchdowns.
WR Eli Simank (Sr.) has nine receptions for 204 yards and three touchdowns. WR Braydon Martin (Jr.) has 12 receptions for 182 yards and three touchdowns.
Burton averages scoring 41.3 points per game, while giving up 23.5 points per game. In addition to Milano, the Panthers have wins over Bartlett and Somerville, along with forfeit victories over McDade and Snook.
Iola has wins over Milano and Somerville, along with the forfeits over McDade and Snook. The Bulldogs average scoring 30.6 points per game, while giving up 28.2 points per game.
Burton Head Coach Jason Hodde gave a scouting report on Iola.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm at Bulldog Stadium in Iola. If Burton and Granger win their respective games tonight (Friday), then next week's game at Panther Stadium could be for the District Championship.
