TEXAS RAMP PROJECT BUILDS RAMP FOR WASHINGTON RESIDENT
Texas Ramp Project volunteers came together on Saturday to help a Washington County resident regain her mobility.
Team members installed a wheelchair ramp, free of charge, at Mary Whitley’s home in Washington.
The ramp was built by a team from St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham, Burton Bridge Ministry, and Brenham Young Men’s Service League. The 30-foot ramp will help Whitley enter and exit her home safely and make it easier for her family and caregivers to assist her.
During October and November, Texas Ramp Project volunteers across the state have been building ramps in celebration of the nonprofit’s 40th anniversary campaign. They gather on weekdays or Saturday mornings to build free ramps for neighbors. Over the years, volunteers have built more than 30,000 ramps for older adults and others with mobility issues.
The Washington County Texas Ramp Project team was first assembled in 2008 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. To date, it is approaching 300 ramps built in the area.
