The Blinn College women's basketball team opened the Paris Classic with a 71-53 victory over Connors State College earlier today (Friday) in Paris, Texas.

The Buccaneers (2-1) earned their second consecutive victory.

"It was a good team win today," Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. "We got to play all 14 players and got them some good game experience."

The Bucs built an 18-9 advantage by the end of the first quarter before the Cowgirls fought back to cut Blinn's lead to just 32-27 at halftime.

The Bucs began pulling away in the third quarter by outscoring Connors State 20-16 in the third period before closing out the game with a 19-10 fourth-quarter performance.

Sophomore guard Mariah Houston hit five 3-pointers as part of a team-high 17-point effort. Sophomore forward Cynthia LeCompte added 16 points, and sophomore guard Jasey Campbell chipped in eight.

Jenkins praised Campbell for a solid defensive turn against Connors State sophomore guard and Troy University commit Kiaya Davis. Davis entered the game averaging 21 points, but Campbell limited her to 15.

Up next, the Bucs will conclude the Paris Classic with a tilt against Northwest Mississippi Community College at 1 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday).
