BLINN MEN’S BASKETBALL OPENS BLUE BELL CLASSIC WITH A WIN
The Blinn College men’s basketball team controlled Friday night’s game against the University of Arkansas-Cossatot from the tip-off and never looked back.
Sophomore guard Dashawn Ceaser drilled a 3-pointer on the opening possession and Blinn never trailed en route to a 99-75 win over the Colts on day one of the Blue Bell Classic at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.
The Bucs (4-0) emptied their bench as 13 players saw the court in the blowout.
“It was an opportunity to get a lot of guys some looks who hadn’t gotten as much playing time in the previous three games,” Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. “That was very important in building our depth, and all our guys played hard and played unselfish basketball tonight.”
Blinn was efficient in nearly all categories, as four Bucs tallied 10 or more points and four more scored at more than seven. Blinn won the rebound battle 51-33 and made 25 free throws to Cossatot’s 12.
Blinn built a 56-38 halftime cushion.
“Our guys are getting better and better every game,” Schumacher added. “They’re working hard in practice and understanding what we’re asking of them.”
Freshman guard/forward Ian Sedah led the Bucs with 18 points and 12 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double. Caesar followed with 17 points and freshman guards Desmeon Jones and Kendarious Johnson added 12 and 10, respectively. Freshman guards Connor Sprattley and Brandon Hatcher chipped in eight apiece and freshman forwards Anthony Williams and Rollings Kamanda both had seven.
Kamanda had nine rebounds, sophomore guard Tyson Mobley added five assists, and Johnson had three steals.
Blinn concludes the Blue Bell Classic against Dallas College Cedar Valley at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
