A tough fourth-quarter performance foiled the Blinn College women’s basketball team’s bid for a perfect record at the Paris Classic on Saturday.

The Buccaneers scored four points in the final period as Northwest Mississippi College rallied for a 41-39 victory in Paris, Texas.

Blinn fell to 2-2 overall this season.

“We played great team defense today and made almost everything a tough shot while rebounding extremely well,” Bucs head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “Offensively, we missed open shots, missed free throws, and turned the ball over. I was extremely proud of our fight and competitiveness, and if we can fix the turnovers, we are good enough offensively that we will make shots. Until that day comes, it is nice to know that we are fighters and can make a game close when our shots aren’t falling.”

The Rangers led 13-12 after the first quarter before Blinn battled back to force a 19-all tie at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Bucs pulled ahead 35-33 and took that lead into the fourth.

Sophomore guard Taylor Spencer paced Blinn with 10 points while sophomore forward Cynthia LeCompte added nine.

The Bucs get back to work when they open play at the three-day Western Texas College Classic with a tilt against Weatherford College at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 20, in Snyder, Texas.
