HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD APPROVES C.O.A. FOR PLANNORTH ARCHITECTURE
The City of Brenham Historic Preservation Board approved a Certificate of Appropriateness application at the meeting on Monday.
The CoA came from Century Property Holdings owners Ken and Katie Burch, who purchased the historic building at 114 East Alamo Street to be their new office for PlanNorth Architecture. The building will house other businesses as well.
Originally constructed as the First National Bank, the building has a long and significant history in downtown Brenham. Over the years, it has housed a variety of tenants, including banks, J.H. Faske Jewelry, retail shops, law offices, and a flooring store.
According to Katie Burch, the building contributes significantly to the downtown Brenham historic district, and contains many original architectural elements. It is the only known building in downtown Brenham to have been constructed with a multi-level concrete structure.
Plans for exterior renovations include the addition of a stairway at the back façade of the building for fire egress, updating the glass in the windows, painting the window frames and updating the mural in Fall of 2026. Interior renovations will be focused on the second and third floors only, with the Hospice Boutique remaining as is through 2027.
When complete, PlanNorth Architectural Company will occupy the second floor and a portion of the third floor. Also on the third floor will be a law firm, Trailmasters Clearing and Mulching, and other business-related services.
