BLINN WOMEN’S BASKETBALL FALLS TO WEATHERFORD 73-66
Story by Joe Alberico, Blinn College Sports Information
The Blinn College women’s basketball team dropped a hard-fought battle to Weatherford College 73-66 on day one of the Western Texas College Classic on Thursday in Snyder, Texas.
The Buccaneers fell to 2-3 overall.
Blinn led 19-17 after the first quarter before the Coyotes rallied to take a 40-36 halftime lead. Weatherford then used a big third period to build a 66-52 advantage heading into the fourth.
Blinn’s defense stiffened in the final quarter, limiting the Coyotes to just seven points, but the Bucs were unable to generate enough offense to match.
“We showed a lot of fight tonight in the fourth quarter after 20 minutes of basketball that was not our best,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “Weatherford is very balanced with good post play and good shooters. Hopefully we learned a lot tonight and will be better for it in February.”
Sophomore and freshman guards Mariah Houston and Mariah Davis led the Bucs with 11 points apiece, followed by eight-point efforts from second-year guard Taylor Spencer and freshman guard Chloe Williams. Sophomore forward Cynthia LeCompte and her freshman counterpart Kamaria “Juice” Ford each chipped in six.
Blinn continues its run at the Classic with a tilt against Western Texas College at 5 p.m. on Friday.
