#7 MIDLAND HANDS BLINN MEN’S BASKETBALL FIRST LOSS OF THE SEASON

Dashawn Ceasar (Joe Alberico)

The Blinn College men’s basketball team hit a road bump Friday in the form of a tough Midland College squad.

The previously unbeaten Buccaneers hung tough for most of the first half, but the Chaparrals went on a game-changing run just before the break and pulled away for an 88-66 victory at the Wrangler Club Shootout in Odessa, Texas.

The Bucs fell to 6-1 on the season.

“We played really hard, and in the first half we were guarding well, moving the ball, and rebounding,” Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. “Then there was a stretch late in the first half where we took some bad shots and had some turnovers, and boom – Midland was up 10. After that, we could never get over the hump of having to exert so much energy to get back into the game.”

Desmeon Jones (Joe Alberico)

Midland led 44-33 at the intermission.

Blinn got a team-high 16 points from sophomore guard Dashawn Ceaser, and freshman guard Desmeon Jones followed with 11 to go with six rebounds. Freshman guard Kendarius Johnson had eight points and six rebounds.

Up next, Blinn concludes its run at the Shootout when it takes on No. 12 Odessa College at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
