IOWA COLONY ENDS THE CUB FOOTBALL SEASON 31-30
The Brenham Cub Football Team saw their season come to end last (Friday) night in a heartbreaking 31-30 loss to the #4 Ranked Iowa Colony Pioneers.
Iowa Colony got the scoring started near the end of the first quarter as QB Carson White found WR Jayden Warren, a Texas A&M commit, on a 19-yard touchdown pass. Andres Vasquez added the extra point to give the Pioneers a 7-0 lead at the 1:56 mark.
Brenham would come back on the next drive as Xyran Upshaw connected with Chris Guidry on a five-yard touchdown pass. The Cubs went for the two-point conversion, but didn't get it. However, they had cut the Iowa Colony lead to 7-6 with 10:55 in the second quarter.
The Pioneers drove it down the field and RB Aaron Tenner reached the end zone on a five-yard touchdown run. Vasquez added another PAT to increase the Iowa Colony lead to 14-6 with 9:51 to go in the first half.
Brenham followed that with Upshaw finding C.J. Glover wide open, and he streaked down the field for a 56-yard touchdown catch. Bleu Cienega kicked the extra point to trim the Pioneer lead to 14-13 at the 7:39 mark.
Vasquez closed out the scoring in the first half with a 36-yard field goal with 4:21 left in the second quarter to give Iowa Colony a 17-13 lead.
Coming out of the locker room, the Cubs opened the third quarter with a flea-flicker that saw Upshaw finding Guidry on a 31-yard touchdown pass. Cienega added the PAT and Brenham had their first lead of the game 20-17 with at the 10:07 mark.
The Pioneers re-took the lead as White hit Warren on a 49-yard touchdown pass, and Vasquez kicked another extra point to give Iowa Colony a 24-20 advantage at 7:01 left in the third.
The Cubs rounded out the scoring in the third quarter as Upshaw found Cartelle Brown on a 77-yard touchdown pass. Cienega kicked the extra point to put Brenham back in front 27-24 at 5:45 left.
The fourth quarter scoring opened with Cienega kicking a 22-yard field goal to increase the Cubs' lead to 30-27 with 8:29 left in the game.
The Pioneers scored one more touchdown as White ran one in from two yards out tie it 30-30. Vasquez kicked the extra point to put Iowa Colony in front 31-30 with 6:38 on the clock.
The Cubs had one last chance to win it as they got the ball back with just 2:53 left in the game. Unfortunately, Upshaw's only blemish on the night came at the wrong time, as the drive ended on an interception.
A short time later, the Pioneers went into victory formation, and Brenham's season ended came to an end.
The Cubs finished 11-2 for the second straight year. It was the final game in the green and white for 22 seniors:

For the season, Xyran Upshaw had a huge season by completing 132 out of 220 passes (60%) for 2,402 yards, 33 touchdowns to only seven interceptions.
C.J. Glover finished with 179 carries for 1,142 yards and 16 touchdowns.
In a season that saw him break several Brenham High School receiving records, Chris Guidry had 71 catches for 1,370 yards and 22 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Cartelle Brown finished with three really strong games. On the season, Brown ended up with 56 catches for 843 yards and 8 touchdowns.
