PUBLIC MEETING WEDNESDAY IN BRENHAM ON POSSIBLE EXPANSION OF ‘DOE DAYS’

Hunters and landowners in Washington County are encouraged to attend a scoping meeting tomorrow (Wednesday) regarding the potential expansion of the current four-day antlerless deer season, known as “doe days”.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington County Expo Event Center in Brenham.  The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says the meeting is intended to inform the public of the proposed 16-day antlerless season and collect input before a formal proposal is presented to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission.

If adopted, the expanded season dates would take effect in the 2026-27 season and apply to 21 counties in the Post Oak Savannah and South-Central Texas area, including Washington, Austin, Colorado, Fayette, Lee and Waller counties.

Currently, the four-day antlerless season runs from Thanksgiving Day to the Sunday right after Thanksgiving.  The expanded 16-day season would move the start up to the second Saturday of General Season.

The bag limit for the season would remain at two antlerless deer, all seasons combined.  Hunters would also still be required to complete mandatory antlerless harvest reporting in the Texas Hunt & Fish app or online, which is required in each of the 21 counties.

The scoping meeting tomorrow is the first of several planned in the region.  Additional meetings will be held on December 9th at the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office in La Grange, December 10th at the Colorado County EMS Building in Columbus, and December 11th at the Austin County Courthouse in Bellville.  Each meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.
