RIBBON CUTTING CELEBRATES NEW PICKLEBALL COURTS, OTHER IMPROVEMENTS AT JACKSON ST. PARK

The first suite of renovations at Jackson Street Park in Brenham is finalized, and community members gathered today (Tuesday) to celebrate the occasion.

City of Brenham officials, along with members of
the Washington County Chamber of Commerce and
Brenham Pickleball Club, celebrated the completion
of the first phase of improvements at Jackson Street
Park with a ribbon cutting on Monday.

Representatives from the City of Brenham, Washington County Chamber of Commerce and Brenham Pickleball Club held a ribbon cutting to mark the completion of the project’s first phase.

The upgrades include four new pickleball courts adjacent to the six existing ones at the park, a new playscape and swing set, enhanced restroom facilities, better-quality lighting and electrical, sidewalk extensions and ADA accessibility improvements.

City of Brenham Public Works Director Dane Rau, speaking on the pickleball courts, said they have helped revitalize the park and given adults a great activity to enjoy.

Rau thanked the city’s parks department, parks and recreation board, city council, and those involved in the design and construction stages for bringing the project to life.

Brenham Mayor Atwood Kenjura expressed pride in the city’s park system, saying it is at the same level or better than those of much larger cities.  He added that Jackson Street Park has grown to be “real special.”

Improvements to the park, valued at approximately $1.2 million, were fully funded by local sales tax dollars allocated by the Brenham Community Development Corporation.  Rau said the city’s hope in the next few years is to launch a second phase of park upgrades, including a pavilion and other amenities.
