GAS PRICES DOWN FOR CHRISTMAS
Heading into the Christmas holiday, gas prices in Texas are trending downward.
According to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch, the statewide average price of a gallon of regular unleaded fuel is $2.48. That price is a penny lower than last week, 22 cents less than last month, and 18 cents cheaper than this time last year.
In Brenham, the average price at reporting gas stations is $2.39, with a low of $2.28 and a high of $2.60.
Surveying the metropolitan areas in Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $2.76 per gallon, while drivers in Amarillo and Lubbock are spending the least at $2.17.
Nationwide, the average price per gallon of fuel comes out to $2.86, which is 5 cents less than last week, 24 cents less than a month ago, and 19 cents less expensive than a year ago.
AAA predicts 122.4 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles from home over the holiday period, which is a 2.2 percent increase over last year’s record of 119.7 million travelers. The 13-day holiday period is underway from today (Saturday) through January 1st.
