LCRA AWARDS JUST UNDER $1.1 MILLION IN COMMUNITY GRANTS; NEW GRANT APPLICATIONS OPEN IN JANUARY

The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) awarded nearly $1.1 million over its past community grant cycle to support various projects in the region.

LCRA and City of Brenham representatives

The grants totaling $1,096,247 will help fund 41 projects.  They include repairing the women’s restroom at the Brenham American Legion Hall, rebuilding the lower section of the Carmine Hall, purchasing a new generator for the Carmine Volunteer Fire Department, installing a plaque on the Fayette County Courthouse grounds to honor a local resident who served in the Revolutionary War, allowing the Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department to purchase a new brush truck and rescue equipment, and renovating the Colorado County Emergency Operations Center.

To date, LCRA has awarded 2,178 grants worth more than $55 million.  Combined with $248 million in community-raised matching funds, the program has invested more than $303 million in local communities.

Grants of up to $50,000 are awarded twice a year for capital projects for volunteer fire departments, emergency responders, schools, cities and counties, as well as civic groups, museums, libraries and other tax-exempt nonprofit organizations.

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the program, LCRA will award one $100,000 grant to a project submitted during the upcoming application period.  The $100,000 grant will be in addition to the grants of up to $50,000 that LCRA will continue to offer.

The next round of grant applications will open in January at https://lcra.org/grants.  Applications are due by midnight on January 31st.
