GRASS FIRE ONE OF FIVE CALLS MONDAY FOR BRENHAM FIRE DEPT.

The Brenham Fire Department was called out five times on Monday.

Close to 5:45 a.m., units responded to a vehicle fire reported at Highway 290 West and Highway 36 North.  They made location to find one vehicle with nothing showing.  The department checked the brakes on the vehicle before returning to service.

At approximately the same time, BFD members were dispatched to a grass fire at Comfort Suites, 2350 South Day Street.  They found a small fire in the mulch in the flower beds and proceeded to extinguish the fire.

The department was called back out to Comfort Suites shortly after 7:30 a.m. for a possible structure fire.  No fire was found at the location, but the mulch in the flower beds was smoldering, so firefighters applied water to the flower beds.

At 12:15 p.m., personnel went out to East Academy Street and Hosea Street for a report of a gas odor.  No odor was detected at the location.

Just past 6 p.m., units were sent out to a possible structure fire at a residence in the 300 block of Stone Hill Drive.  While no fire was found, they did discover one of the HVAC units had an issue, so they advised the building personnel to get an HVAC company to come out.
