CUB BASKETBALL DROPS A HEARTBREAKER TO MONTGOMERY 60-59
The Brenham Cub Basketball Team suffered a heartbreaking 60-59 loss to the Montgomery Bears in their District 17-5A opener on Friday night.
The Cubs got off to a good start, and led 20-11 after the first quarter. Brenham and Montgomery then played to a 19-19 draw in the second quarter, which gave the Cubs a 39-30 lead at halftime.
Coming out of the locker room, Montgomery got closer by winning the third quarter 13-11. However, Brenham was still able to maintain a 50-43 lead.
In the fourth quarter, the Cubs hit a cold spell, and went scoreless for the first three and a half minutes of the period. Montgomery outscored Brenham 17-9 down the final stretch, and took a 60-59 lead.
Brenham did have a chance in the closing moments, but could not get a last second shot to fall in, and the Bears escaped with the win.
Montgomery's Devondre Walker led all individual scorers with 22 points in the game. After a slow start, Chase Scheler caught fire in the second half and scored 19 points for the Bears.
Jayden Hebert led the Cubs with 16 points. Also reaching double figures were Chris Guidry with 14 points, Quincy Adams with 11 points, and Roderick Martin with 10 points.
Next up, Brenham will be on the road tomorrow (Tuesday) for a 7pm game in Huntsville.
