LEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE ARRESTS TWO ON DRUG AND OTHER CHARGES
Two people were arrested in Lee County on Monday afternoon after being caught with drugs, a stolen vehicle, and a firearm.
Just after 1pm, a Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy made a traffic stop on a black SUV that was traveling westbound on Highway 21 near Highway 77 for a traffic violation.
The deputy made contact with the driver, 42-year-old Adam Alan Mounkes of Freeport, and the passenger, 29-year-old Julicet Gonzalez of Houston, and detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
After running a background check, it was determined the SUV was reported stolen out of Harris County.
Another deputy arrived to assist at the scene, and a probable cause search was conducted. The deputies located methamphetamines, fentanyl, and a handgun in the vehicle.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, they also recovered multiple items that are consistent with identity theft and fraud. Those items included multiple pieces of mail addressed to other individuals, debit cards, credits cards, checks, passports, a credit card machine, and various keys to postal mail boxes.
Both Mounkes and Gonzalez were arrested and taken to the Lee County Jail in Giddings. Mounkes was charged with a third-degree felony for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, a state jail felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance, and a state jail felony for Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Gonzales was charged with a third-degree felony for Possession of Controlled Substance.
Lee County Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger said their Criminal Investigations Division is working with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and that additional charges are pending.
