SALES TAX REBATES UP IN WASHINGTON CO. FOR JANUARY

  

Sales and tax distributions across Washington County were up to start 2026.

The county reported a rebate of $388,158 this month, up 9.49 percent from the $354,514 it received in January 2025.

The City of Brenham collected $832,006 in January, an increase of 4.73 percent from last January, when it took in $794,408.

The City of Burton’s payment this month was $10,739, up 14.92 percent in comparison to January of a year ago, when the city brought in $9,345. 

Acting Comptroller Kelly Hancock announced $1.2 billion in local sales tax allocations this month, up 4.9 percent from January 2025.

January’s allocations are based on sales made in November by businesses that report tax monthly.
