PANTHER BASKETBALL PICKS UP DISTRICT WIN OVER SOMERVILLE

Kayden Patterson (Burton ISD)

Home, sweet home. The Burton Panther Basketball Team got back on the winning track last (Friday) night with a 54-41 victory over the Somerville Yeguas at the Burton High School Gym.

Burton took an early 14-11 in the first quarter, and then outscored Somerville 11-6 the second quarter, which gave the Panthers a 25-17 lead at halftime.

The third quarter also belonged to Burton, 13-6. That gave the Panthers a 38-23 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

The fourth quarter ended up being the only one that was won by the Yeguas, 18-16, but it was not enough to overcome the early lead.

Kayden Patterson led Burton with 23 points in the game. Yobani Brewer added 16 points, and Jason Gonzalez finished with nine points.

The Panthers have a bye on Tuesday night. They were supposed to play Weimar in a non-district game, but the Wildcats had to pull out due to illness.

Burton will be back in action next Friday, when they host Snook at 7:30pm.
