DEE WINTERS WINS THE 49ERS IRON MAN AWARD

Dee Winters (San Francisco 49ers)

It was a breakout season for former Burton and TCU star Dee Winters, who has now been honored with one of the San Francisco 49ers's top team awards.

Winters received the Matt Hazeltine Iron Man Award. The Award is named for former linebacker Matt Hazeltine, a 13-year performer who played more seasons at linebacker than any other 49er player.

Known for his durability and dedication, Hazeltine passed away in 1987 from ALS, and Bill Walsh established the award in his honor that year.

The award is given annually to the most courageous and inspirational defensive player as voted upon the defensive coaches.

The 49ers' season end this past Saturday with a loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Winters was the team's leading tackler with 101 (67 solo and 34 assists). He also had a 74-yard return for a touchdown.

After missing the first 49ers' first playoff game due to injury, Winters returned against the Seahawks and added nine more tackles to his total.
