CHAPPELL HILL SCARECROW FESTIVAL NOT FINISHED YET
When the 48th Annual Chappell Hill Scarecrow Festival ended back in October, organizers feared it could be the last one.
However, a new business that just opened in the community last year, is working to bring it back.
At the time of the Festival’s closing, the Chappell Hill Historical Society said that they were discontinuing the festival due to rising costs, and a reduction in participating volunteers.
BirdDog announced on their Facebook Page that they are bringing the Chappell Hill Scarecrow Festival back, and this year, they are adding live music.
The post says, “The Scarecrow Festival has long been a Chappell Hill tradition, and we’re honored to help revive it alongside the Chappell Hill Historical Society and the community that’s kept it alive for generations.”
In a press release, BirdDog co-founder and CEO Jonathan Lusk says, “The Scarecrow Festival is a celebration of community, heritage, and rural culture—values that sit at the heart of what BirdDog does every day. We appreciate the cooperation of the Chappell Hill Historical Society and the Chappell Hill community as BirdDog assumes coordination of all festival activities for the newly rebranded Chappell Hill Scarecrow Music Festival, debuting October 10–11.”
BirdDog is a company that assists landowners with land management, and they also host guided hunting and fishing trips. With headquarters in downtown Chappell Hill, the company says it aims to honor and elevate local tradition, support local vendors and artisans, coordinate volunteers and systems, and build continuity year after year.
Lusk says, “With BirdDog helping guide operations, the Chappell Hill Scarecrow Music Festival is positioned not just to continue—but to flourish in ways that honor the past and build toward the future.”
Right now, they say step one is building the team that will help make the festival happen.
If you’re interested in being part of the revival, such as helping shape the music, vendors, logistics, and overall experience, then they’d love to hear from you.
The Scarecrow Festival has been one of the Historical Society’s main fundraisers to help support programs and maintain local historical properties.
