CUBETTE SOFTBALL COMES BACK WITH TWO WINS ON DAY TWO OF THE LEADOFF CLASSIC
After a tough start to the Leadoff Classic, the Brenham Cubette Softball Team bounced back with two wins on the second day of the tournament at Alumni Field.
The Cubettes beat the Converse Judson Lady Rockets 12-4 in the first game.
After Judson scored in the top of the first, Brenham came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning. McKenzie Tiemann led it off with a single, Harper Castillo bunted her to second, Tiemann stole second, and then Kylie Baker singled her home with the first run of the game. McKenna Marsters followed that up with a walk. Then, Aldyn Jaks hit a two-run triple, which scored Baker and Marsters to increase the Brenham lead to 3-1.
In the second inning, Alli Tiemann singled, and McKenzie Tiemann doubled. Allie later scored on an error, while McKenzie stole home to give the Cubettes a 5-1 lead.
Brenham came up with three more runs in the fourth inning. McKenzie hit a one-out double, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch. Harper Castillo singled, and scored on an RBI double by Kylie Baker. Jaycee Hegar reached on an error that also allowed Baker to come around and score to make it 8-1 Cubettes.
Judson scored three runs in the top of fifth to cut the Brenham advantage down to 8-4.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Cubettes put the game away with four more runs. Payson Gurka hit a one-out double. Ali Tiemann reached on an error that allowed Gurka to score. She also stole third and later scored. McKenzie Tiemann walked and later scored on an RBI triple by Laityn Davis. Baker singled home Davis to make it 12-4.
Davis went five innings in the circle allowing just two earned runs to pick up the win.

Brenham would also win the second game 13-0 over the San Marcos Lady Rattlers. McKenzie Tiemann kept the hot bat going with a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning. Laityn Davis singled, and Kylie Baker walker. MaKenna Kmiec came on to courtesy run for Baker. McKenna Marsters singled home Davis, Kmiec scored on an RBI groundout by Aldyn Jaks, and then Marsters came home on an RBI single by Payson Gurka. The Cubette led 4-0 after the first inning.
In the second inning, Ali Tiemann circled the bases on an inside-the-park home run. McKenzie Tiemann followed with a single, and Harper Castillo reached on an error. Davis singled home McKenzie. Baker walked, and Kmiec came in to run again. Marsters bunted the runners over. Jaks followed with a two-run double that scored Castillo and Davis. Jaycee Hegar came up as a pinch-hitter and slugged an RBI double to bring in Kmiec. Both Tiemann sisters added back-to-back RBI singles to cap off an eight-run inning that increase the Brenham lead to 12-0.
The Cubettes tacked on one more run in the bottom of the fourth as Alli scored on a throwing error by San Marcos to make it a 13-0 game.
Kylie Baker went the first two innings, with Payson Gurka pitching the last two in relief.
