CUBETTE SOFTBALL WRAPS UP LEADOFF CLASSIC WITH A 12-8 WIN OVER PORTER

For the third game in a row, the Brenham Cubette Softball Team brought out the big sticks and picked a 12-8 win over the New Caney Porter Lady Spartans earlier today (Saturday).

The Cubettes got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning. McKenzie Tiemann led it off with a double. Then, later in the inning, she went for a steal of third base, and the catcher air-mailed the throw into left field, which allowed Tiemann to score the first run of the game making it 1-0 Brenham.

Then, in the third inning, Ali Tiemann led it off with a walk. McKenzie Tiemann followed her younger sister with an RBI double. McKenzie later scored on a sacrifice fly by Harper Castillo. Kylie Baker, Jacee Hegar, and Aldyn Jaks drew three straight walks to load the bases. Payson Gurka, then, drew a bases loaded walk to score Baker, and extend the lead for the Cubettes to 4-0.

Porter scored their first run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning, which reduced the Brenham lead to 4-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Brenham busted the game open. Ali Tiemann walked, McKenzie Tiemann reached home safely on a fielder's choice. Castillo singled home Ali. Laityn Davis laid down a suicide squeeze bunt that allowed McKenzie to score. Baker singled down the right field line that allowed Castillo to score, and put the Cubettes in front 7-1.

Reagan Wall came on to run for Baker. Hegar singled, and Jaks followed with a double to bring home Wall. McKenna Marsters added a two-run double that scored Hegar and Jaks to increase the lead to 10-1.

The Lady Spartans added four in the fifth to cut the Brenham lead down to 10-5.

Brenham tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. Castillo singled, and scored on an RBI double by Davis. Baker added an RBI single to bring in Davis, and make it 12-5.

Porter came up with three more runs in the top of the sixth inning that reduced the lead down to 12-8, but Brenham held on for the win.

Brenham will now head to New Caney West Fork on Monday for 1pm President's Day Matinee game.
