LADY PANTHERS OUTSLUG MADISONVILLE 11-10 FOR FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team rallied in the bottom of the seventh with two runs to defeat Madisonville 11-10 for their first win of the season.
Madisonville jumped out to the early lead with a run in the first inning and three runs in the third inning off of starter Laci Broesche, which made it 4-0 Lady Mustangs..
Burton came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kara Landriault reached on a fielder's choice, Natalie Hodde doubled, and Broesche walked to load the bases. Amaya Williams drew a bases loaded walk to score Landriault with the first run. Paige Fritsch followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Hodde and Broesche to cut the lead to 4-3.
Madisonville added four runs in the top of the sixth to increase their advantage to 8-3.
The Lady Panthers answered in the bottom of the sixth with six runs to take their first lead of the game 9-8. Landriault reached on a walk, and Hodde singled. Paige Fritsch, later in the inning, slugged a three-run homer.
Burton loaded the bases again on a single by Melanie Wood, and walks to Haeleah Herrin and Abby Dowling. Skyler Unger cleaned the bases off with a three-run double.
Madisonville re-took the lead with two runs in the top of the seventh to make it a 10-9 game.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Broesche reached on a bunt single, and Williams followed with an RBI double to tied it 10-10. After back-to-back strikeouts, Herrin delivered an RBI single that scored Williams with the game winning run, and an 11-10 final.
Next up, Burton (1-1) will be taking part in the Navasota Tournament, which starts on Thursday and runs thru Saturday.
