CUBETTES DROP BOTH GAMES ON OPENING DAY OF THE DRIPPING SPRINGS TOURNAMENT
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team got off to a rough start on day one of the Dripping Springs Tournament.
The Cubettes dropped their opening game this (Thursday) morning to the Crandall Lady Pirates 16-5. Crandall is a 5A team that went three rounds deep in the playoffs last year.
The Lady Pirates jumped on starting pitcher Laityn Davis for four runs in the first inning. They would later add three more in the fourth inning to increase their lead to 7-0.
Brenham finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning when Davis singled home McKenzie Tiemann. Kylie Baker followed with another single that brought in Harper Castillo, and cut the Crandall lead to 7-2.
However, the Lady Pirates blew the game open in the top of the sixth by scoring nine runs, and with their new 16-2 lead, put the run-rule into play.
In the bottom of the sixth, Jaycee Hegar led it off with a double, and MaKenna Kmiec came in as a pinch-runner. Aldyn Jaks came up and smacked an RBI single to score Kmiec. McKenna Marsters walked and Sandra Prieto singled to load the bases. Ali Tiemann followed with a single to bring home Jaks, and McKenzie Tiemann singled home Marsters. That made it a 16-5 game, which turned out to be the final.
Brenham had a rough outing in the field committing four errors. Davis took the loss in the circle.
