LADY PANTHER SOFTBALL LOSES TWO AT THE NAVASOTA TOURNAMENT
The Burton Lady Panther Softball Team dropped the first two games of the Navasota Tournament on Thursday. Burton lost to Navasota 8-5, and Madisonville 9-6.
In the first game, the Lady Rattlers jumped out to the early lead with five runs in the first inning and an extra run in the second inning to make it 6-0 Navasota.
Burton scored their first run in the bottom of the second inning. Paige Fritsch led it off with a walk, and later came around to score on an RBI single by Abby Dowling to cut the lead to 6-1.
Navasota came back with two more runs in the top of the third inning to make it 8-1 Rattlers.
In the bottom of the third, the Lady Panthers battled back with a pair of runs. Laci Broesche reached on a fielder's choice, and then scored on an RBI double by Amaya Williams. Paige Fritsch hit a double of her own to score Williams and to trim the margin to 8-3.
Burton continued their comeback attempt in the bottom of the fourth inning. Addison Harmel walked, and later scored on RBI single by Williams. Later in the inning, Fritsch drew a bases loaded walk that scored Natalie Hodde to make it 8-5, which turned out to be the final score.
The Lady Panthers committed five errors in the field, which helped them take the lead for good.

Madisonville avenged their loss to Burton from earlier in the week. The Lady Mustangs scored a run in the first inning to take the early lead.
Burton took the lead with four runs in the third inning. Kelsey Landriault was hit by a pitch and Natalie Hodde walked to put two base runners on. Amaya Williams followed with a three-run homer over the left field fence. Paige Fritsch made it back-to-back jacks with by hitting a solo shot, as well. That made it 4-1 Lady Panthers.
Madisonville took advantage of three Burton errors in the bottom of the third inning for an eight-run outburst, which put the Lady Mustangs up 9-4.
Burton managed to get two of those runs back in the top of the fifth. Williams, Fritsch, and Melanie Wood drew walks to load the bases. Abby Dowling also walked, which scored Williams. Then Haeleah Herrin brought home Fritsch on an RBI groundout to cut the lead to 9-6. However, a couple of strikeouts ended the Lady Panthers' chance for a comeback.
Laci Broesche went all seven innings. She gave up nine runs, but because of five Lady Panther errors in the game, only two were earned.
