BURTON BASEBALL SPLITS FINAL TWO GAMES AT THE SCHULENBURG TOURNAMENT

The Burton Panther Baseball Team split their games on the second day of the Schulenburg Tournament on Friday.

In the first game, Burton defeated Port Aransas 6-0. The game was scoreless until the bottom fourth inning, when the Panthers scored three runs. Logun Tosta led it off with a walk. Braydon Martin reached on a single. Tosta went to a third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Rueben Rodriguez. Eli Jaeger drew a walk. Martin scored on an error by the catcher., and then Jaeger came home on a passed ball, which made it 3-0.

Burton tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Coy Gurka and Easton Witt led it off with back-to-back singles. Tyler Witt reached on a fielder's choice. Gurka scored on a passed ball. Tosta singled and took second on an error, which also allowed Witt to score. Tosta later came home on an RBI single by Rueben Rodriguez, which made it a 6-0 game.

Tyler Witt pitched another gem on the mound with six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits, two walks, and striking out nine.

The Panthers would then wrap up the tournament by losing a heartbreaker to Falls City 4-3.

Burton got it started off with a run in the top of the first inning. Logun Tosta reached on a one-out single, stole second, stole third, and then scored on an RBI single by Rueben Rodriguez.

The Panthers added another run in the top of the second. Coy Gurka walked, stole second, and then came home to score on an error, which put Burton ahead 2-0.

Falls City came back with two runs in the bottom of the second to tie it. They would then take the lead with a run in the third, and a run in the fifth to lead the Panthers 4-2. Rodriguez singled, stole second, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Eli Jaeger. Unfortunately, Burton hit into an inning-ending double play by Falls City, who secured their 4-3 win.
