The Blinn College men’s basketball team came up just short in a Region 14 showdown Saturday, falling 82-79 to Paris Junior College in Paris, Texas.

With the loss, the Buccaneers move to 17-10 overall and 11-8 in region play.

“We played extremely hard,” Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher said. “We were in foul trouble and had to deal with that a bit, but it’s hard to win on the road in any circumstance, especially in our region.”

Blinn controlled much of the first half and held the advantage for a majority of the opening period before Paris closed strong to take a 41-39 lead into the intermission.

The Buccaneers continued to battle in the second half, but the Dragons capitalized down the stretch to secure the victory in the tightly contested matchup.

Sophomore guard Dashawn Ceaser led Blinn with 19 points. Freshman guard/forward Sedah contributed 14 points, freshman guard Desmeon Jones added 13 with a team-high seven assists, and freshman guard Connor Sprattley chipped in 12 points, including a trio of 3-pointers.

Freshman guard Anthony Williams pulled down a team-best eight rebounds.

Blinn will look to get back into the win column when it hosts region foe Lee College at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the Kruse Center in Brenham, Texas.

“It’s very difficult to win in college, but we’re putting up a fight, and we’ve been in each of these last three games with opportunities to win,” Schumacher added. “I know eventually those opportunities are going to go our way.”
