CUBETTE SOFTBALL FALLS TO COLLEGE STATION IN DISTRICT 17-5A OPENER
The Brenham Cubette Softball Team lost a 5-4 see saw battle against the College Station Lady Cougars last (Tuesday) night in their District 17-5A opener at Alumni Field.
The game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when College Station tagged Cubette starter Laityn Davis for four runs.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Brenham scored three runs of their own to cut the Lady Cougar lead down to only one run, 4-3. Davis drew a walk to start the inning. Kylie Baker reached on an error by the second baseman. Harper Castillo moved up Davis and Baker on a sacrifice bunt. Jaycee Hegar would then bring them both home on a two-run single. On another error, Hegar went all the way to third. Ali Tiemann brought Hegar home on a squeeze bunt.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Sandra Prieto reached on an error at shortstop. Davis reached on another error at shortstop that allowed Prieto to score and tie the game 4-4.
College Station came back with a run in the top of the fifth inning off of Baker, who had come on in relief of Davis. That gave the Lady Cougars a 5-4 advantage.
Brenham had a chance to win the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. McKenzie Tiemann and Aldyn Jaks both reached on singles, but the offense could not get them in.
Next up, the Cubettes will host the Waller Lady Bullldogs on Friday at 6pm at Alumni Field. That evening, they are going to be honoring the 1996 Brenham High School State Softball Champions, who are celebrating their 30th anniversary.
