CUB BASEBALL LOSES TWO ON THE FIRST DAY OF CORPUS CHRISTI TOURNAMENT

The Brenham Cub Baseball Team dropped a pair of games on the opening day of the Corpus Christi Tournament. In the first game, Austin Anderson defeated Brenham 7-5.

The Cubs got on the board first. Ethan Aschenbeck led off the inning with a walk. Dalton Hart would follow with a hit, and Owen Finke walked to load the bases. Brayden Steele drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Aschenbeck with the first run of the game.

The Trojans responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and two runs in the bottom of the third off of Cub pitcher Dawson Keim to take a 4-1 lead.

Brenham got back on the scoreboard in the fourth inning. Steele walked, and then Luke Hardy hit a two-run homer to make it a one-run game. However, Anderson still led 4-3.

The Trojans scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth to increase their lead to 7-3.

In the top of the sixth inning, Hardy and Bleu Cienega added back-to-back singles, and Caleb Maurer walked to load the bases. Hart followed with a two-run single that scored Hardy and Cienega, which cut the score to 7-5 Anderson. However, that would be as close as Brenham would come.

Keim went all five innings for the Cubs, giving up seven runs, five were earned.

In the second game, the Brenham Cubs lost to Corpus Christi King 9-8. The Cubs got on the board in the top of the first inning. Dalton Hart led off the game with a walk, and later came around to score on a sacrifice fly by Ethan Aschenbeck.

The King Mustangs came back with four runs in the bottom of the first inning, and one run in the bottom of the second inning on starting pitcher Hudson Hartstack to take a 5-1 lead.

Brenham responded with three runs in the top of the third inning. Hart reached on a bunt single, and Drake Bentke walked. Then, Aschenbeck slugged a two-run triple that scored Hart and Bentke, which cut the King lead to 5-3. Luke Hardy followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Aschenbeck to cut it to a one-run game., 5-4.

The Mustangs came back with two runs in the bottom of the third to increase their advantage to 7-4.

In the fourth inning, Bleu Cienega led off with a single, stole second, and then went to third on a balk. He would then score on a single by Hart. Owen Finke was hit by a pitch to put two runners aboard. Bentke came up next and crushed a three-run homer to right field, which put the Cubs back in front 8-7.

However, King rallied with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to win it 9-8.

The Corpus Christi Tournament continues today (Friday). Brenham is scheduled to play Cedar Park at 12:30pm and Harlingen at 4:30pm.
